Rutherford Public School was established in 1985 and is a large primary school situated within a growing residential area within the Maitland district. The school’s current enrolment is 953, with students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, including 16% Aboriginal students. The school has recently benefitted from a major capital infrastructure upgrade in 2019, with the construction of a new hall, canteen, 19 co-teaching classrooms, amenities and extensive landscaping. The teaching staff is a mix of experienced and early career teachers who value teamwork and are committed to delivering quality teaching in a nurturing environment. The school encourages collaboration and team teaching opportunities.

The school has a commitment to ensuring equitable access to ICT. Rutherford Public School has a proud tradition of providing quality and highly successful programs in the creative arts, sport and extra curricula activities.
