The Newcastle School principal (P2) has leadership and management responsibilities across three sites – Newcastle Junior School, Newcastle Middle School, Newcastle Senior School.

The Newcastle School (SSP) was established at the beginning of 2012 and is made up of three school sites: Newcastle Junior School (P2) supporting pre-school to Year 4 students through transition from early childhood to primary years; Newcastle Middle School (P1) supporting Year 5 to Year 8 students through early adolescence; and Newcastle Senior School (P2) supporting Year 9 to Year 12 preparing students for post-school life.

Newcastle School provides the best educational outcomes and creates educational pathways for students with a moderate to severe intellectual disability or multiple disabilities. With a clear focus on quality of life outcomes, the Newcastle School negotiates individual learning plans with parents/carers of each student. As all students are preparing for their next stage and place of learning, each student’s individual learning plan outlines their personal goals.

The Newcastle School principal leads the school leadership team that includes the three site principals, each with designated responsibility for one site. This model provides consistent leadership and management across three sites in relation to strategic planning, professional learning, teaching and learning, programming, assessment and reporting and health care. Service delivery is enhanced by allowing staff to concentrate on stage/age appropriate curriculum in an age appropriate teaching and learning environment. The Newcastle School model has enabled external agencies to more effectively support students, their parents and the school, while working collaboratively with the school leadership team.
