Lawrence Hargrave School is a school for specific purposes catering for 63 secondary students who have an emotional disturbance, behaviour difficulty and a mild intellectual disability. The school is established for nine classes with seven students, a teacher and School Learning Support Officer in each class. Secondary specialist teachers are also employed to deliver curriculum across all Key Learning Areas using both life skill and mainstream outcomes. Our school structures and practices respect and respond to the diverse needs and unique characteristics of our students. Currently, 90% of our students are male, 40% are from a language background other than English and 18% are Aboriginal. Students travel to our school from various suburbs across South-Western Sydney region and have been referred from over 35 different schools. The school supports and implements the Positive Behaviour for Learning model and provides each student with an extensive and collaboratively developed Personalised Learning Plan.
