Carp Productions Incursions

Incursion / Last updated 4 years, 8 months ago

Carp Productions are specialists in Children’s Theatre! Our funny, dynamic, interactive shows fully engage students on subjects aligned with the Victorian Curriculum.

Our shows are specifically designed for Foundation - Year Four students. With an emphasis on literature, interaction, music and dancing, our shows illuminate class study topics in a fun, entertaining way. In a Carp Productions performance, students are not just audience members – they are the stars of the show! Our shows ignite the students’ imaginations and provide a fun learning experience.

With many years of experience specialising in Theatre-in-Education performance, Carp’s team know just how to engage an audience. The actors create a safe, supportive environment where even the more reserved students feel confident to perform in front of the group.

Carp’s performances also address Victorian Curriculum areas including Communication, English, Interpersonal Development, Personal Capabilities, the Arts, and Thinking Processes. We are constantly updating and refining our topic areas, and offer new shows every year.

We always appreciate suggestions from teachers regarding subject matter for performance.  A performance in development for 2020 on Gender Equality, came about via a direct request from a school, as have shows about Human Rights and Personal Identity.  So please let us know if there’s any topic you’d like to see brought to life – no challenge is too great for us!

Carp's Performances!

All shows run for 45 minutes, and are suitable for Foundation – Year Four students.

Marvellous Me!

TOPIC: PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Do you want to be proud to be you? With the help of his sea friends, King Neptune will show you how to feel fishtastic! A show celebrating everyone’s unique capabilities, “Marvellous Me!” encourages students to explore their special skills and qualities, and learn about self-esteem, the importance of friendship, acceptance and diversity, cooperation and teamwork.

“King Neptune invites you to Marvellous Me Island to meet his very special friends!  A plucky pirate will help to convey, that being different from his crew is okay. A very tender and thoughtful tree, shows how important friendship can be. A clownish crab on the run, learns making mistakes can be fun! Celebrate being proud to be you in this show about diversity and acceptance”

Mirror, Mirror On The Wall!

TOPIC: FAIRYTALES

“Mirror, Mirror on the Wall!” is a unique take on the more traditional fairytale performances. We include popular music, references and modern situations to make our stories relatable to our audience.  Our show brings many much-loved characters to life and inspires students to love literature! We look at the differences and similarities between fairytales, participation in performance, characterisation and role-playing, and the transition from books to performance.

Your Attention Please!  The Magic Mirror is about to announce who is The Fairest of Them All! The Fairytale characters are in a frenzy and are feeling a little fractious! The Big Bad Wolf is Trying to be a Big Good Wolf, The Gingerbread Man is feeling “crumby and Snow White is seeing Red! Who will be the fairest of them all? The show includes the story "The Three Little Pigs" and "The Ugly Duckling".

Mighty Mini Beasts!

Come With Us to an Enchanted Garden Full of Magical Mini Beasts!

In this show, creatures from the garden are brought to life with colourful costumes and lively performances. Each mini beast we meet not only teaches the audience about itself, but helps students create their own versions of insects through participation in the performance. We learn about the characteristics of mini beasts, the types found in a typical back yard, their environment and life cycles, how they contribute to the garden environment, and the way they move.

Explore the wonderful world of Mini Beasts. Be part of a story about the life cycle of an insect. Meet a daring Daddy Long Legs, Black Boots the dancing Beetle, and a very ‘hoppy’ Grasshopper! Dance at the Queen Bee’s Ugly Bug Ball! You’ll be mad about mini beasts, too!”

Too Many Toys!

This action-packed show enables students to develop an understanding of the many uses, purposes and designs of both modern and olden day toys. We look at the way toys are designed and consider why they may have been designed in a particular style and who they are targeted at. Students will learn about the history of toys, how different toys compare to each other, the way they move, what they’re made from, and the forces used to make toys move by themselves.

“Do you have too many toys? Danny does! They cover the bed, they cover the floor, his parents can’t cope with the mess any more. It’s time for a big clean up. Danny’s Mum wants us to interview each toy and help decide which to keep and which to give away. Meet a talkative old Teddy! Some lively Lego! A wind-up Toy Soldier! And a toy room with unicorns, floaty fish, hobby horses and more! Dress up and move as a toy. Learn about their history. Help Danny discover that the most valuable toy may cost nothing at all!”

Book Week 2019

Our 2019 Book Week show will inspire students to read and act out some sensational new stories from Book Week. The performance is based on a variety of this year’s Book Week short-listed and nominated entries. We aim to highlight the benefits of reading, the power of imagination, and the magic of bringing characters to life. We include an overview of the short-listed books, a narrative based around the year’s theme, (this year’s is “Reading is My Secret Power”), and a fun look at some of the nominated books with audience participation and roles for students to play.

“Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It’s an awesome book! Grab your favourite 2019 Book Week Books and celebrate your secret power – reading! Use your reading skills to go on amazing adventures and meet some captivating characters! Remember – every hero has a story and you can too! Join us as we bring the newest Book Week Books to life! This year’s theme is ‘Reading is My Secret Power'”

The Night Before Christmas!

Celebrate the magic of Christmas with all the characters from Santa’s Village!  With Elves, Reindeer, Snowmen, the Gingerbread Man and even a talking Christmas tree, our Christmas show incorporates all the fun and magic of the day, with a storyline that allows for lots of student interaction, and the chance for some of them to join in the performance and develop skills such as characterisation and speaking before an audience. We also address curriculum topics such as Communication, Personal Capabilities, and the Arts. It’s a laugh out loud show which is fun for everyone, including the teachers!

“It’s the night before Christmas at the North Pole. The Christmas tree is twinkling. The presents are piled high. The reindeer are ready. But something is missing – Santa’s laugh!  Instead of saying “Ho Ho Ho” he’s saying “Oh No, No, No!” Help our silly Snowman, rollicking Reindeer, energetic Elves and goofy Gingerbread Man find Santa’s laugh, and bring back the good cheer to Christmas this year!”
