A warm and welcoming secondary school in Brent, North-West London are looking for a learning support assistant to work within their SEN department. As a learning support assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with special educational need (SEN) within a mainstream environment. A learning support assistant at this school may be supporting students within one specific department or moving within multiple different departments to best support specific students. We are looking for warm and empathetic individuals who are flexible and proactive. A desire to support young people is the most important thing for a Learning Support Assistant, but it would be beneficial to have some experience of working with secondary aged children (11-16).

The school in question is a lovely place to work, with an inclusive and supportive ethos. They see their staff as one cohesive team, regardless of position or level of seniority. There is a relatively high number of students with Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans, and the school fosters an inclusive environment where students with SEN can thrive. Experience working with children/young people with SEN would be beneficial but is not essential.

Role: Learning Support Assistant

Location: Brent

Start Date: September

Position: Full-Time, Monday to Friday

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students.
  • Work closely to support students with a range of special educational needs (SEN)
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individualized learning plans.
  • Support classroom activities and help create an inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers.
  • Foster a positive and encouraging atmosphere for all students.
  • Qualifications:

  • A passion for education and a commitment to student success.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
  • Being proactive and easily adaptable
  • Experience working with children in some capacity (formal or informal)
  • An enhanced DBS on the Online Update Service (or be willing to get one)
